Friday morning we sat around our computer screen and watched the streaming dedication of two buildings; the BYU-Idaho center, and the new Manwaring Center.
Ironically the night before we laid in bed and discussed taking this campus for granted. For me, as I am sure many others, going to BYU (Idaho, Provo, or Hawaii) is just the next step: primary, young womens, relief society, BYU.... we come here without much thought as to other options out there. Compared to others who analyze, apply, and anticipate, we just go and do. This is part of the reason I feel students have problems with the honor code... they forget that out of all the colleges they could have chosen to go to they 'chose' to came here, meaning they 'agreed' to the honor code.
We were supposed to be there, in the audience, with the other 15,000 people. Tickets were forgotten the night before, thus given to someone else. So Tuesday we attempted a self guided tour. After hiking multiple flights of stair, nearly 8 months pregnant, and Levi on my hip we got one picture before we were kicked out of the new BYU-Idaho Center!

But we headed to the Manwaring Center to get books and wander through the finishing touches of construction. These buildings are definitely different than any of the others on campus.
During the dedication:
President Kim B. Clark talked about the sense of wonder in the building in it's 'sweep and scale but the wonder is not in the building, the wonder we feel is in the work the Lord will do here'. He then went on to come compare it to the scripture, 'therefore I will proceed to do a marvelous work among these people, yay a marvelous work and a wonder'.
David A Bednar discussed the Spirit of Ricks and warned against losing it. He stated that as long as 'intellectual modesty, humility, gratitude, obedience, and frugality continue to characterize those who learn at... this University, it will shine forth brighter than ever'.
Russel M. Nelson talked about what made BYU-I presidents such great individuals.. PRST (a now common word in our home). '...they and their eternal companions PRAY regularly, REGARD other people respectably, STUDY spiritual and secular subjects symmetrically, and TITHE faithfully...'
President Henry B. Eyring, who dedicated the building, reflected back on being a President of the school and how much this campus has grown.
Afterward we again discussed this great opportunity Devin has to be here on this campus. Classes begin with prayers, there is a dress code, everyone is ultimately striving for the same thing... I don't know if it's one of those things that you don't realize how good you have it until it's gone (or coming to an end), or just that as we get closer and closer to Dental School and a whole new experience, campus, and location.
